History & Significance
- The site originally had a Sarai (rest house/post centre) under Shah Jahan during the Mughal era (17th C.).
- Later, during the early 19th century, Maharaja Ranjit Singh converted it into a fortified military outpost under his general’s supervision.
- Built as a defensive structure with tall walls, bastions, a moat, and watchtowers, it shows European and Mughal architectural influences.
- The fort houses the shrine of Pir Baba Abdullah Shah Ji and a small museum with historical war relics and antiques.

- The fort is a popular heritage site and picnic spot for families and tourists.
- It’s also distinctive for its red‑colored walls and symmetrical approach gateways.
